Troop Guide

  • Works with the Instructors and the Scoutmasters to identify requirements needed by scouts in the troop, and to create teaching topics for troop meetings and Advancement Saturdays.
  • Should lead advancement activities on one advancement oriented campout (if available) or Advancement Saturday during his term.
  • Introduce new Scouts to troop operations.
  • Guide new Scouts through early Scouting activities.
  • Help set and enforce the tone for good Scout behavior within the troop.
  • Ensure older Scouts never harass or bully new Scouts.
  • Help new Scouts earn the First Class rank in their first year.
  • Coach the Patrol Leader of the new-Scout patrol on his duties.
  • Work with the patrol leader at Patrol Leaders’ Council meetings.
  • Attend Patrol Leaders’ Council meetings with the patrol leader of the new-Scout patrol. Must attend the 6 month planning conference and 50% of monthly PLC meetings unless sick or extenuating circumstances. When unable to attend must notify the SPL in advance.
  • Assist the Assistant Scoutmasters (ASM) with training.
  • Coach individual Scouts on scouting challenges.
  • Teach basic Scout skills.
  • Set a good example.
  • Wear the Scout uniform correctly.
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
  • Show and help develop Scout spirit.
