- Works with the Instructors and the Scoutmasters to identify requirements needed by scouts in the troop, and to create teaching topics for troop meetings and Advancement Saturdays.
- Should lead advancement activities on one advancement oriented campout (if available) or Advancement Saturday during his term.
- Introduce new Scouts to troop operations.
- Guide new Scouts through early Scouting activities.
- Help set and enforce the tone for good Scout behavior within the troop.
- Ensure older Scouts never harass or bully new Scouts.
- Help new Scouts earn the First Class rank in their first year.
- Coach the Patrol Leader of the new-Scout patrol on his duties.
- Work with the patrol leader at Patrol Leaders’ Council meetings.
- Attend Patrol Leaders’ Council meetings with the patrol leader of the new-Scout patrol. Must attend the 6 month planning conference and 50% of monthly PLC meetings unless sick or extenuating circumstances. When unable to attend must notify the SPL in advance.
- Assist the Assistant Scoutmasters (ASM) with training.
- Coach individual Scouts on scouting challenges.
- Teach basic Scout skills.
- Set a good example.
- Wear the Scout uniform correctly.
- Live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
- Show and help develop Scout spirit.
