posted Feb 28, 2014, 1:47 PM by Unknown user

What:   A map and compass class geared towards helping new scouts pass their Second Class rank requirement #1a “Demonstrate how a compass works and how to orient a map.  Explain what map symbols means” (scout handbook pages 354, 360-364).

When:  Monday, March 10, 6pm (before the Troop meeting)

On Monday, March 10, at 6pm we will go over how a compass works, how to orient a map, and what map symbols mean.  Then (recent Webelos, Scout rank, Tenderfoot rank) scouts will have an opportunity to demonstrate and pass their Second Class rank requirement #1a.  Depending upon time, we will then go into greater detail and discuss the parts of a compass, how to read a topographic map, how to use a map and compass together, and how to navigate by following a bearing.

What to bring:  Your scout book (so you can get signed off) and a compass (if you have one)
